2. PRINTMAKING WITH KIDS: make tiger monoprints!
Last weekend my girls made some awesome 🐅 monoprints using an acrylic tray, an ink dauber, and the coloring material of their choice. H used watercolor to add some zing to her prints and R used tempera paint sticks.
You don’t need to have a clear acrylic tray to create your tiger monoprints. Try painting or drawing on a readily available non-absorbent surface: tinfoil, a cookie sheet, gelatin, ziplock bag, glass tabletop, mirror, or a window all work great!
Don’t have ink daubers? Try using paint or a marker to draw your tiger heads!
materials we used:
water cup
paper towel

My girls experimented with tracing by sticking a photocopy of a tiger under the acrylic tray. The tracing did not last very long because they both preferred the looseness and the spontaneity of free-style drawing!
The nice thing about using an ink dauber is that the lines are bold.. bold enough to repeat a design after you pull the first print.
Process steps: 1. draw a tiger with blank ink 2. place white paper on top of illustration. Smooth palms of hands across the back of the paper with even pressure trying not to shift the paper 3. pull the print! 6 that you got a mirror image) 5. India ink dries fast but you might have a little dry time depending on what material you used for your tigers 6. when the black lines are dry/dry it’s time to add some color. Use your favorite supplies - my girls used a tempera stick watercolor combo
