Little House Ornament

30 colorful little cardboard houses next to one another. The houses are different shapes and sizes and each one is painted and detailed in various colors. Some have small gold hanging loops.

Love grows best in little houses, with fewer walls to separate. Where you eat and sleep so close together, you can't help but communicate. And if we had more room between us, think of all we'd miss. Love grows best in houses just like this.

This quote is actually lyrics from a song. The words are so warm and they paint such a happy picture in my mind. I just love the idea of love growing big in a tiny house! I wanted to capture the same sentiment with these little handmade ornaments.

Materials:

cardboard and corrugated cardboard scraps
assorted collage scraps
acrylic paint + brushes
hot glue gun or white glue (it just takes longer to set and dry)
thin gold cord or string for hanging

1. Mix colors and paint cardboard.

The image shows a pile of corrugated cardboard pieces. Each piece is a different color. Some appear to have been cut with scissors and some appear to have been ripped by hand.

2. Cut shapes for roofs, doors, windows, and houses frames.

Dozens of geometrically cut cardboard shapes. Each shape is painted a different color. These are the details which will become a roof, chimney, door or window when detailing the little houses. A silver pair of scissors is also shown

3. Assemble by gluing the roofs, doors, and windows onto the houses with a hot glue gun.

4. Cut gold thread to the desired length and glue to the back of your ornament, sandwiched between the house and an additional piece of cardboard.

These little houses were really fun to make! I think they would make a sweet handmade gift. They are not overtly holiday so they are the kind of thing that you could keep out all year round. How sweet would a row of these little houses look framed in a picture box, or peeking out from a window frame?
